The University of Alberta Libraries, with a long tradition of service excellence to the University and its communities, seek a dynamic individual to join the team that provides services based from the Law Library and the Humanities and Social Sciences Library. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic professional librarian with a demonstrated interest in a career in law librarianship.  The successful candidate will provide liaison reference, research and instructional services to faculty and students in law as well as political science and sociology.  Strong knowledge of legal research, scholarly communication and digital information resources integral to success in this position.

Qualifications:

  • Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent
  • Previous experience with teaching and instruction, new modes of service delivery, and electronic resources
  • Academic background or library experience in law and the humanities or social sciences
  • Formal training in Canadian Law and law librarianship through coursework and familiarity with databases such as CanLII, Westlawnext Canada, and LexisAdvance Quicklaw is strongly desired

Evening and weekend work will be required when the University is in session.

Applicants must also possess a strong service orientation, excellent instructional and communication skills, superior information management skills, and a commitment to cooperative and innovative solutions. Candidates will demonstrate evidence of ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment, and the ability to be flexible to changing circumstances. Candidates will possess a high level of competence with electronic information sources and new technologies, demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, organizational and analytical skills, leadership qualities, and evidence of ongoing professional development and involvement. Successful candidates will also be interested in and seek opportunities for conducting research and the evaluation of services and collections.

This is a tenure-track position at the Librarian 1 level with a current salary range of $62,231 to $124,387.
